Have you ever dreamed of spending some carefree, calorie-burning days in a waterside paradise of singing cranes and dancing deer? Well, lucky for you, it can soon become a reality here in Yancheng, a place where you can open your heart. On April 21, Yancheng will fire the starting pistol at Chengnan sports center for its first Full Marathon—the 2019 Dayang Bay Yancheng Marathon. Known as the capital of oriental wetlands and salt, Yancheng will show you a wonderland of rivers and birds that relaxes your soul and brings you joy.
The race has three categories: Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and Mini Leisure Running, available for runners of various levels. Why not seize the moment and chase your dream in what is hailed as one of China’s most beautiful eco-cities?
An Eco-friendly Course
Yancheng is the only Chinese city named after salt (Yan in Chinese). Salt production here dates back as early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C.—24 A.D.). Given the rich deposits of salt among other land, sea, and mudflat resources, Yancheng Marathon has elaborately mapped out an eco-friendly course that offers a wealth of the city's delights.
Scenic spots and historical sites along the course include: Yantanghe Park, Yancheng Botanical Garden, Yancheng TV Tower, Julong Lake Park, the New Fourth Army Memorial Tower (a.k.a. the "bronze horse"), the New Fourth Army Memorial Hall, Dayang Bay, Yandu Park, and the China Sea-salt Museum. The race course is flat and smooth with wide open views and fresh air, making it easy for the runners to achieve good results.
As the first Full Marathon in Yancheng, Yancheng Marathon naturally becomes the city's foremost public face. The eight supply points are dedicated to Yancheng's features, and provide local delicacies such as sugar fried dough twists, Dongtai fish soup noodles, and quick-fried shrimps. Along the featured course, participants can enjoy a feast of Yancheng's scenery, culture, and food.
Global invitations expand the visibility of Yancheng Marathon—and that of the city—through the Belt and Road countries to the entire world. All-round support is provided for foreign participants, including a multi-lingual (Chinese, English, Korean, and Japanese) sign-up system, and volunteers speaking other languages at first aid, security, and supply points.
Featured Awards and Medals
The top 100 participants of both Full Marathon and Half Marathon will be awarded prizes. There will be a ranking award set for Chinese participants. A total of 400 participants will receive prizes or medals. Finisher medals will be awarded to participants of all categories (Full/Half Marathon, Mini Leisure Running). The top three male and female participants of the Full Marathon and Half Marathon will be awarded a gold medal (gold-plated silver, worth about RMB 1,500), a silver medal (pure silver, worth about RMB 800), and a bronze medal (pure bronze, worth about RMB 400), respectively.
Besides high-standard race services, the host will also provide other benefits for all participants:
1. Participants who have successfully signed up can visit the Cherry Blossom Festival at the Dayang Bay Scenic Area and other major scenic spots in the city free of charge by showing their bib numbers.
2. Participants can take free city buses (including buses to the Red-crowned Crane Reserve) by showing their package receipts or bib numbers.
3. Finisher packages featuring local specialties (including Funing Cakes, bread, Wuyou Sugar Twists, Hailu mineral water, bananas, and souvenirs of the Dayang Bay Scenic Area)
During the Cherry Blossom Festival to be held from April 1 to May 1, participants can run amidst breezy winds and fragrant flowers, enjoying the beauty of this eco-city.
